The Showers Saga - 2 (originally posted Dec. 15/07)

Updating you on the Shower Saga (see below) ... today, I hand over the checks to the landlord. By day's end, we will have possession of the space.

Praise the Lord God who provides -- including providing the monthly operating costs (if you'd like to donate, the information is at the bottom of "The Shower Saga - 1").

These views are my own: personal (and often different) perspectives on ministering the Gospel to the people on Vancouver's Downtown East Side. Some say the DTES is the "worst postal code in Canada", but for an evangelist, they're the "whitest fields for harvest".

The DTES I know is considerably different from the one presented in the media. Sure, there's crime, drugs, prostitution, filth; but it only looks scary. There's an artificial wall of fear around the place, and I believe it's a satanic way of keeping people in poverty and preventing those who might help them find the hope they need to rise up out of poverty from getting in. In essence, it's a barrier to the Gospel being preached.

But once you allow yourself to push past it, you get a greater understanding of the people, their issues, and the striking similarities with yourself.

Much of the observations come from pastoring at The Lord's Rain, a ministry of Gospel Mission. It providing showers to those who need them in the early mornings.
